SA²GE - Phase 2: INTEGRATED MODULAR AVIONICS FOR ECO-EFFICIENT NAVIGATION
The "Integrated Modular Avionics for Eco-efficient Navigation" project, called “IMA econav”, supports the creation of new navigation products, with the goal of reducing the ecological footprint of air transport, in particular the emission of greenhouse gases. The project also addresses other harmful impacts by reducing aircraft fuel consumption during flight and the consumption of resources for producing aircraft equipment.
PERFECT FLIGHT: A CONCEPT TO DECREASE THE ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINT
The concept of a perfect flight is central to eco-efficient navigation. It consists of three parts:
Flight Management: Performance-based navigation optimizes the aircraft's trajectory to optimize fuel-economy.
Landing system sensor: the next-generation GPS sensor provides precision 3-dimensional approach of Categories I, II and III. The ground-based GPS augmentation system, abbreviated as GBAS, is designed to meet requirements of precision, integrity, continuity and availability. This sensor receives data from a GBAS ground station broadcasting at or near the airport over VHF radio frequencies (VHF Data Broadcast). The ground facility provides differential corrections, integrity parameters, and precision approach path point data, defining the path in space to enable the precision approach operations.
Display applications: Cockpit Display of Traffic Information (CDTI) and a digital terrain moving map enhance situational awareness in the cockpit.
These three capabilities are supported by a modular avionics platform integrated with the aircraft.
